The University of Limoges is the Limousin region’s largest body for research, development and innovation. It is home to more than 700 researchers and professors.

Whilst ensuring its multidisciplinary approach, the University gives priority to scientific excellence and enjoys the advantages offered by the presence and dynamism of a large number of scientific personalities and research teams with a real national and international influence. A lively student life is organised with more than one hundred associations, as well as student TV and radio via Internet. On the sports side of things, its level of involvement in activities is one of the highest among French universities, with about thirty different sports practiced (paragliding, canoeing and kayaking, diving, Savate or “French Kickboxing”, windsurfing, team sports, dance etc.) With regard to cultural life, the city of Limoges offers a very rich range of activities (10 theatres, 28 cinemas, 3 contemporary art museums, a Zénith stadium, 5 municipal cultural and arts centres, numerous exhibitions and events etc.).

The University of Limoges is a European university institution.

With 20,000 students, Limoges is a true University City. Rents remain reasonable and the Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires (CROUS / regional higher education organisation providing student grants, residences and restaurants), which manages 14 halls of residence and 8 university restaurants, offers numerous services.

The city itself offers pleasant surprises. It is simple to play sports thanks to a range of facilities catering for the practice of 72 different sports, and as for going out, the only problem is choosing from among the City’s vast range of activities, as is shown in the brochures published by the Centre Régional d'Information Jeunesse (Regional Information Centre for Young People).
